Patagonia

October 18, 2019 — December 20, 2019

I spent my first three months in Patagonia kayaking through the Chonos Archipelago for 35 days, working on a remote Chilean Campo for 10, & getting certified as a Wilderness First Responder, all as part of my NOLS Patagonia Year (PYR).

My time sea kayaking pushed me outside of my comfort-zone immensely; I remember leading the pod in the single kayak across a particularly windy channel, crying into the storm, my arms and back burning, wondering if we’d ever arrive ashore.

My time spent on Gabino and Norma’s campo was eye opening; I had the opportunity to herd sheep over the pass on horseback, & help the community sheer them. I ate asado, but didn’t have the courage to watch Gabino slaughter the sheep—I think I will always feel a bit conflicted about that.
